1. I have bought one of your products directly from mBrain Software. How do I upgrade?

You will receive upgrades automatically by E-mail.

2. I have bought a site license. How do I upgrade?

You will receive upgrades automatically by E-mail.

3. I have bought one of your products from an e-tailer. How do I upgrade?

You need to keep in a safe place the email you received when you bought the software. The email generally contains instructions on how to reload the software onto your computer, when a new release has been made.

4. How do I install a sis file?

Before installing Pdf+, you need to make sure you can install unsigned sis files.

You can reset this field after you have installed Pdf+.

Pdf+

1. When I open certain PDF files, the text is completely garbled.

Try setting use of embedded fonts on. Press <Ctrl>+<K> to access the Preferences. Now make sure the field "Embedded fonts" displays "Yes".

2. When I open certain PDF files, the text is readable, but looks different.

Some PDF files do not contain embedded font files for all fonts used in the PDF file. Pdf+ must in this case use the built-in fonts of your smartphone. However, there aren't much fonts available on your smartphone, so most text will look the same, while it looks different on a PC.

3. I have Pdf+ on an MMC card.

Pdf+ (for Series 60 Smartphones) is being delivered as a Try & Buy program on MMC card for a number of Nokia Series 60 1st and 2nd edition smartphones. A Try & Buy program allows you to test the program a couple of times. If you like the program, you can buy it.

The exact details on how to buy the Try & Buy distribution of Pdf+ (for Series 60 Smartphones) are different for different locations, please consult the documentation that comes with your phone.

4. How do I export images?

Pdf+ does not support exporting images from a PDF file. But you can use the standard Symbian OS Screen Capture facility on devices that support it (Nokia 9210(i)/9290, Nokia 9500/9300(i)):

You can also install one of the freely available screen shot takers on your device. www.my-symbian.com is a good starting point for obtaining one for your device.

5. How do I install a Character Collection plug-in

During installation of Pdf+, you are asked whether you want to install support for Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional) PDF documents. You can install the dll's at this point by making sure the boxes are ticked.

If you decide you want these dll's installed at a later time, just reinstall the program and make sure the boxes are ticked.

6. How do I add a telephone number to a PDF document?

It is possible to add a phone number to a PDF file in such a way that it can be dialled by Pdf+. This is how to proceed.
Let's assume you have a brochure with your company information. Open the brochure with a PDF editor application. I am using Acrobat 5.x as an example. Then

  1. Go to the page with the phone number.
  2. Press the Link tool from the command bar
  3. Draw a box around the phone number. Acrobat will display the Link Properties dialog.
  4. In the Type: choice list, choose the World Wide Web Link. A button Edit URL... appears.
  5. Press the Edit URL... button. The Edit URL dialog appears.
  6. Enter the phone number in the box in the like this:
    tel:+xxyyzzzzzz
tel: identifies a telephone number, just like http: identifies a web page. Don't forget the colon at the end.
xx is your country's international access code.
yy is your city's dial code (no leading zeroes).
zzzzzz is your phone number and extension.
  7. Press OK, and press Set Link. Close the PDF document, saving the changes.
  8. Test the phone number by transferring the file to your Smartphone and activating the link in Pdf+. Your PC will also recognize the phone number link as an URL, but changes are it doesn't know how to dial a phone number.

PdfPrinter

1. Why don't I see lines around cells in Sheet?

Lines around cells aren't drawn automatically, you need to enable this yourself. There are two ways to draw lines around cells:

  1. You can draw lines around all cells by ticking Print grid lines in the Print dialog.
  2. You can draw lines around individual cells and ranges of cells by selecting them and going to Format | Border...

2. Why don't I see the topmost and leftmost lines around cells for row 1 and column A in Sheet?

Sheet does print these lines, but they are printed outside the clipping rectangle.

The clipping rectangle is an area on the printout, outside of which printing is not allowed. PdfPrinter therefore ignore these lines. You can try ticking Mask (the Sheet fix) in the Misc. tab when entering PDF file properties.

As an alternative, try inserting a row at the top and/or a column at the left. You might also want to set the background colour of cells added in this fashion.

3. Why don't I see a graph in Sheet?

Sheet does print graphs, but they are printed outside the clipping rectangle.

The clipping rectangle is an area on the printout, outside of which printing is not allowed. PdfPrinter therefore ignore these lines. You can try ticking Mask (the Sheet fix) in the Misc. tab when entering PDF file properties.
